My name is Sofie, and my nickname is Suus. I am 34 years old and a mother of two daughters, Eefje and Lotte, and I am in a relationship with Sietse.

We live in the beautiful old center of Dordrecht, where I also have my studio.

Sustainability has been ingrained in me since my upbringing; we mostly ate organic and vegetarian food, and my parents bought a lot of second-hand items. It’s something you don’t really think about as a child.

Only as I grew older did that awareness increase, and becoming a mother intensified it even more.

From a young age, I spent a lot of time behind the sewing machine, making my own clothes. When I became a mother, I started sewing clothes for my children. In my quest for a more sustainable life, the combination of making children’s clothing from pre-loved clothing and textiles emerged.

And thus, Suus Handmade was born.
